The Sonny Sharpe Trophy With a heavy mist lifting shortly before 8 AM a field of 43 tee'd off under sunny skies in this year's Sonny Sharpe Trophy. After the recent maintenance week, the course is now back to its best and our thanks go to Doug and his team for all of their hard work. The morning medal round proved to be very close with 10 players shooting nett level par or better with Dave Bannell leading the way with 68 with Colin Bradbury and Jack Bateman with 69, Lewis Fail, Mitch Bligh, Dan Mould with 70 and Dave Daish, Tim Smith, George Hoarton and Paul Spooner with 71, hot on Dave's heels. The afternoon stableford round was just as competitive with six players shooting nett level par or better with Murray Carter and Nick Goater both shooting 39 points and cutting into Dave's lead. Once the afternoon Stableford points were deducted from the morning nett medal score, fourth place went to Mitch Bligh with a total of 35 (70-35). Third place went to Nick Goater with a total of 34 (73-39) losing out on count back to runner up Dan Mould on 34 (70-36) who also lost out on count back to overall winner Dave Bannell with a total of 34 (68-34) who claimed the spoils by virtue of a better nett medal score. Captain Sean is pictured presenting Dave with the Sonny Sharpe Trophy. I would like to thank Vice-Captain, Kay Walshe for giving up her time to help out at morning registration, to Tracy for setting up the competition and dealing with any scoring issues and to Gary for collating the scores with me at the end of play. Also a big thank you to all of those who stayed on for the presentation. Adie Nicol. Competitions and Handicaps. |
