The Captain's Drive-in competition
Saturday in the drizzle wasn’t the best start to the year of our new captain's. A full field played in the Team Stableford and competition were underway from early morning. The beer, sausage rolls and prosecco (not to mention the tea and coffee) that was available to players at the 11th were enjoyed. Congratulations to the winners: 1st Brad Barber, Mark Bradley, Dan Mannion and Adam Kempthorne each winning £30 Pro Shop vouchers. 2nd Daniel Keyworth, Matt Chalke, Neil Carstairs and Iain Arrowsmith each winning £25 Pro Shop vouchers. 3rd Paul Mantell, Danny Francis, Paul Horton and Paul Balackburn each winning £20 Pro Shop vouchers. Sunday's Short Course Stableford results Division one winner: Jack Bateman with 43 points. I had the pleasure of playing with Jack and witnessing this great six-under score. Division two winner: Lee Oswald with 39 points.
Congratulations to Luke Hodgetts on winning the Scratch Salver Knockout.
Kelly Salvers Twelve seniors and twelve ladies played this drawn Greensomes Stableford event on Tuesday, 20 October. When reviewing the weather forecast in advance, we all heartily thanked whatever fortune had the diary fixed for the Tuesday, not Wednesday this week. The day was warm yet windy, and the course looked beautiful with the autumn colours. Having been required to miss almost all of the social and mixed events during the summer, it seems the players were universally happy to play and then chat, eat and drink for an hour or so. Social distancing worked well in tables of four, the kitchen and bar staff did us proud and the greenkeepers all received our thanks too. The results were: Third place - Wendy Greenhalgh and Grant Russell (36 points). Second place - Nicky Stilwell and Danny Francis (38 points). The winners - Val Jones and Paul Mantell (also 38 points) who won on countback on the back 9. Sadly, there were no actual presentation of the salvers due to Covid-19 restrictions, but congratulations Val and Paul. It seems new friendships were started and old ones renewed, not least your two new captains. Altogether a good day: thanks to all who took part.
