The photo shows the 6th green after it has been verti drained to a depth of 12 inches. All of the greens have had a similar treatment, which will further encourage water filtration through the winter months, as well as improving the soil conditions and rooting channels.

The team will now focus on rolling and cutting the greens over the next two weeks, so there is no evidence of the works being carried out.

6th Green

The picture shows the verti draining works being carried out on all of the fairways. This work, to my knowledge, has not been carried out for many years.

This will help to improve the fairways moving forwards, especially through the summer months when a number of them start to lose turf quality. We are working at a depth of around 4-6 inches as anything beyond this depth is too disruptive. We have made a great start, with 7 fairways already completed this week. The holes will now be left open for around a week to let the air and moisture access the holes before we start to smooth them off and cut them. All of these will be completed by the time the course re-opens.

2nd Fairway

This picture shows the 12th green. We have problems with this green as the right-hand side puddles up in two areas due to the nature of the green’s design.

In the photo, you can see that we have stripped one of the areas of turf, which will allow us to reshape it very slightly so that water can naturally shed off towards the bank. Once this is achieved, we will be installing a pipe through the area to make sure the surface water drains away after heavy rainfall.

This work will be replicated on the second drain towards the back right of the green. The turf will then be laid back down. This will be a huge benefit to this area which has historically laid wet and is very slow to drain away - even after all the aeration works we’ve carried out. This will further help us to encourage the deeper rooting bentgrass in this area.

All November matches have been rescheduled and we have space for one pair on Thursday, 3 December, a guaranteed tee time of 12 noon, please contact me if you would like to join us. I have attached the signup sheet should you wish to join us later in the year or early next year. It would be great to see some of our younger and newer members taking us on, only £15 each and proceeds go to the Captain's Charity, MacMillan Cancer Care.

DJ'S masterclass

We had to wait a long time for the 2020 Masters, but Dustin Johnson made sure it was worth it with a stunning 20-under tournament record.

The quiet-mannered American stalked the course with the swagger and calmness of a true champion. His golf was out of this world. DJ avoided the big mistakes (unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for Tiger after a 10 on the par-3 12th) and took birdies as they came. At one stage his lead was cut to just a single stroke on Sunday afternoon, giving the chasing pack and a resurgent Rory a glimmer of hope, only to put his foot down on the accelerator and never look back.

A fully deserved Green Jacket and he'll rightly be the favourite once again come April. DJ's story speaks for itself: four times he has led in a Major going into Sunday but never converted. Well, I guess it was fifth time lucky! And, as Butch Harmon said during the coverage: "he's the closest we've seen to Tiger".
