Bar News
Can we politely ask, if you wish to use the coffee machine before the bar is open at 10am that you ensure you have change. It does not have to be the correct £1.50, as change will be given, just not notes. Alternatively you could purchase tokens from the bar during opening hours, £1.50 each or 5 for £7.
Bookings are now being taken for the next Sunday lunch on February 22nd.
More players are needed for the Mystery Matchplay this Sunday, 15 February, we have 20 entries to date and this will still go ahead. Meet in the bar for coffee at 11am and starting details. Remember the entry fee does include a 1 course hot meal after play plus prizes.
I have heard the weather is going to be dry, but yes cold, quite normal for this time of year.
Men's Mail on Sunday
Pat Lawson (team captain) was very proud of the performance of his team in the Mail on Sunday, played funnily enough last Sunday!!
In a well contested game played in a wonderful spirit, our guys prevailed 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 against a team from Dummer.
There were some stand out performances, in particular from Nick Goater who was not prepared to be out done by his daughter and won by a resounding 8 & 6. (Beth won for the ladies last week 5 & 4). Likewise, Kevin Stansfield in his first competitive match for the club won 3 & 1, and Jamie Lawson also in his first senior match finished all square. The redoubtable Derek Noyce putted his opponent into submission and Jason Cattle only just failed to get a half against an opponent who could have turned up on a black horse!!
Well done chaps and let's do the same again next time.
We now have demo clubs in for the TaylorMade AeroBurner and R15 drivers, along with the Nike Vapor range.
NEW IN
TaylorMade RSi TP UDI Ultimate Driving Iron
The RSi TP UDI (Ultimate Driving Iron) as well as looking superb is a club that will provide you with the accuracy, workability and ball control you need on the course without sacrificing distance from the tee of fairway.
The playable trajectory the driving iron gives you is incredible, previous driving irons tend to be very tough to generate any airtime but thanks to the 3 millimetre speed pocket this is not a problem.
TaylorMade's advanced 'Speed Pocket' on the sole of the club is becoming a regular part of the iron set up. The technology behind the speed pocket is to give the club a spring like effect to generate further distance and also improve the airtime the club produces.
TaylorMade created the hollow head with a welded 455 carpenter steel face, this provides a low centre of gravity and incredibly high ball speeds.
TaylorMade have incorporated an advanced sound dampening system into the cavity to improve your feel and feedback on every strike and also the sound you hear can help tell you about your shot.
Designed specifically for the better player TaylorMade have stamped each iron with the Tour preferred name.

Forged Face Cup Design
This is some serious speed technology that Callaway are putting into utility irons. The Carpenter 455 Forged Face Cup helps create higher ball speeds all across the face to get the distance you're looking for. This is the same face cup technology used in their fairway woods and hybrids to help the face flex more consistently across a larger area.
Sole Weighting
Here's where some of that "hard-to-believe" forgiveness comes from. The sole weighting lowers the CG so that these utility irons are easier to hit and easier to launch.
Hollow Body Construction
The Hollow Body is in there to increase forgiveness in a traditional long iron shape to help you feel confident over every shot with these clubs.
The driving iron is a special tool for special players. Your choice off the tee should be the club that puts you in position to play the rest of the hole. For some, it's precision. For most others, it's power.

Consistent Chipping
Golfers who struggle with chipping make the setup too complicated. They've been told to take an open stance, set their weight forward, play the ball back, and lean the shaft toward the target. That's a lot of information to apply without making a mistake.
As I'm showing in the left photo here, playing the ball back often causes you to lean away from the target. This shifts your weight back, even though you feel as if it's on your front foot. Now the shaft leans forward excessively. The leading edge is going to stick in the ground and produce a low shot that runs too hard.
Instead, set up square with a middle ball position. Now you can feel relaxed with good posture. To confirm that your weight is forward, raise your back heel off the turf. Set the toe of your back shoe in line with the heel of your front shoe (above, right). Your spine should be vertical, even a touch toward the target.
Practice from this heel-up position. You'll be surprised how pure you strike it.
Knockouts will be open for entry from 12th February on the psi machines in the respective lockers rooms, closing date is 29th march. Please click here to read the conditions of entry.
