Greetings from Gary Stubbington
Hockley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

You should all have received your annual subscription letters by e-mail or post, if you have not had anything please contact Jane or Linda in the office. A gentle reminder that subscriptions are due by 31st March please. Should you not be renewing your membership, could you please let the office know as we have a waiting list of new members eager to join.

The intended car park extension has to have full planning permission which is expected to take 3 months, however in the interim the white lines will be re-painted, this will be done in phases over two days.

Last week I mentioned spring is just around the corner, well I believe it arrived on Saturday, here is a picture taken by Steve Pullen of the crocus's by the first tee.

New in this week are the Ashworth Kingston Golf Shoes, a traditional look with cleated outsole.

New for Ashworth Golf, the stylish Kingston shoe features a classic saddle design with modern and sophisticated colour accents. Featuring a 7 cleat outsole for a traditional look on course. The rich leather upper with microfibre lining creates an elegant look whilst the lightweight insole provides ultra-light cushioning and exceptional comfort. The shoes are of a modern-yet-classic styling that appeals to a wide range of golfers. Available in white/blue or two tone grey.

Breaking 100 Series

Putting Touch - Keep The Coin In Place On Your Putter

Decelerating at impact is not the major problem I see in putting. It's the opposite: Many players take the putter back short, then gun it through to try to get the ball to the hole. The ball explodes off the face without any consistency.

Fine-tune your feel on the carpet at home. Set down a metal yardstick and place a ball in the center. Put stickers on the yardstick the same distance in front of and behind the ball, and balance a penny on the back of your putter (right).

When you hit some putts, swing the putter head the same speed to the back dot and then to the front dot. Accelerate too much, and the coin on the putter will slide off. Your goal is to roll the ball the same distance every time.

Stat Facts

The average 100-shooter takes 36 putts per round, including about four three-putts. One area for improvement is putting from four to five feet, where this player's success rate is 50 percent. A better percentage from this typical second-putt distance will reduce three-putts.

Still struggling? Then come a take a look at our large selection of putters from TaylorMade, Odyssey and PING or book a Putting lesson with Chris or myself.

The happy quartet on tour in Turkey

Paul Mantell looks totally underwhelmed to be there and John Fisher has taken his own Out of Bounds posts and stuck them up his shorts! Some fake tan needed John?

After 2 days of hard fought stableford competition, in the Turkish sunshine, our Vice-Captain Adrian Nicol managed to finish in 3rd place out of 42.

Bookings are now being taken for the next Sunday roast on March 29th.

First Tee Management System

Can we please remind you, that ALL of your group MUST be present and visible to Pro shop staff BEFORE you sign in on the FTMS. If you sign in as a 2 or 3 ball then another player turns up you will have to drop out and take a number at the end. Also my staff are only implementing the system and we ask if you have any issues with the system that you take them up with the golf committee.

The first 3 junior triangle dates are as follows:

Wednesday, 8 April - Royal Winchester 12 noon
Saturday, 11 April - South Winchester 1pm
Monday, 13 April - Hockley 2pm

Please contact your junior captain George Hoarton if you are available to play on any of these dates.

The course maintenance didn't seem to affect the scores in the last of the John Simpson this weekend, we had several cards with over 40 points scored.

Gordon Dewis came in with 41 points on Friday which I am sure is down to his newly fitted PING Irons purchased from us.

The best score was posted on Sunday by Murray Carter with 42 points, but the overall winner of the competition was Mike Archer.

Click here to get in touch if you would like to request your fitting, and see how much we can help improve your game.
