As well as Father's Day on 21st June, can you believe it's also the longest day? Where has that time gone? Before we know it we will be talking about Christmas, but before we do there is still lots of golf to be played and watched. This Thursday sees the start of the US Open at Chambers Bay, it should be a good one as lots of the players are already 'whining and whingeing' about the course. Who will your money be on and will Tiger make it through all 4 rounds?
Dan our second chef leaves on Sunday and we will all be very sorry to see him go, but wish him all the best for the future. No more pudding samples for me! I notice he will be back on 3rd July to take part in the golfer/non golfer evening though, perhaps we have managed to instil a little 'golf' into him?
We've come through this year's cool spring and moved into dryer and warmer weather in good condition and we're now moving into a phase of retaining the playing surfaces we've enjoyed so far. This is always a challenge here at Hockley with the drying winds, limited water availability and an ageing irrigation system, so expect to see us on greens regularly with hoses during the coming months.
The last few weeks we've managed to implement some valuable training, Leigh Powell our Deputy Course manager has been away training working at St Andrews, Gleneagles and G West golf club.
Toby Giles and Ollie Davenport both worked at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and we've organised a week's work experience for Andy Weeks at The Belfry in the autumn.
We've got a great team here at Hockley and these opportunities are an integral part of their development, if you get a chance, stop and have chat with them about what they've been up to.

ISPS Handa Seniors Championship, Close House GC
After coming through a play off on Monday in which there were 11 of us for 5 spots, I entered the ISPS Handa Seniors championship in good heart (I needed a good one to get up those hills).
However, things didn't work out, but I had a very enjoyable week and even got my old caddy 'Stedders' out for a few days.
The weather, the course and the 'locals' were fantastic and I now work towards qualifying for the Seniors British open at Sunningdale in July. Many thanks to all of you who sent me good luck messages, they were very much appreciated.
Instead of the usual tip, I bring you a little teaser
Can you name the player and the tee?
A clue, it is at Hockley.
The first correct answer out of the hat will win a sleeve of Srixon AD333 balls and a Srixon glove.
Click here or pay us a visit in the pro shop to leave us your answer.
Don't forget your dear old Dad! Father's Day is fast approaching this Sunday, 21 June, are you stuck for a gift?
How about a logo sweater, a pair of comfy shoes or just a pair of socks, we can cater for all requirements, even the non-golfer. Alternatively we can offer Gift Vouchers for lessons with Gary or Chris or for shop goods.
Better still why not treat him to a new shirt. Get
£10 OFF any T-shirts on our special rail from top brands such as Glenmuir when you bring in an old shirt. Offer does exclude Glenmuir logo clothing.
Our ladies Hezlet team had a very tight match against a strong team from Stoneham in the semi-finals last weekend.
Chris Quinn won 6 and 5,
Beth Goater, Kay Walshe and
Jill Hoarton all lost at the end of a long battle to ladies with much lower handicaps and
Jo Russell was all square after the 18th. We would like to thank the caddies
Kay Warner, Sylvia Peach and
Helen Vidal Allen and wish Stoneham good luck for the final.
Are the holes at Hockley getting bigger? Yet another 'Hole in One' was had last week,
Anton James scored the ace on the 5th using a 9 iron. Well done.
Whilst on members news I would like to wish
Derek Noyce's daughter
Becky and her fiancé
Dan all the very best for the future. Tracy and I will be attending their wedding on Saturday and will bring you pictures next week of proud dad Derek in his 'finest' attire.
Brokenhurst Stag Result A great result for the Men's Scratch team in the Brokenhurst Stag at the neutral venue of Hayling Island against a very strong Highpost side. Conditions at Hayling were very poor throughout the whole day, 25-30 mph winds from the sea, cold and wet.
The match is played over 36 holes scratch match play with 5 foursomes in the morning and 10 singles in the afternoon. At lunch, after the foursomes Hockley were 4-1 up and quite unlucky not to be 5-0 as match 1 was pipped on sudden death.
So just 4 wins needed from 10 singles in the afternoon. The points in the afternoon proved to be very elusive! The 2
Hobbs brothers won early and then it was all High Post.
Dave Martin won match 7 to make it 7-5 to Hockley, so one point needed from the last 3. We need not have worried as our on 'form' player
Shane Rose had requested a late tee time and brought home the point and our HSBC banker
Alan Carpenter won the last match as well.
Hockley progress to the next round against the Oxford Club Frilford Heath at West Hill. A great result in a competition we have not had much success in since the ties were moved to neutral venues.
David MartinSrixon Stableford
110 members (a record entry this year) played in the Srixon Stableford on Saturday, which resulted in a 3 way tie in division one.
With 42 points was
Neil Absalom, Shane Rose and
David Ford. Neil won on a countback, Shane and David shared the runner up spot and third prize fund as they both had exactly the same countback!
Shane used the Srixon Z Star ball he was given and has now reduced to his handicap to 1.3. I hope all of you enjoyed the benefits of the Srixon ball?
Division Two was won by popular winner
Jim McIntyre with 37 points, closely followed by
Steve Fennel with 36 points.
Men's Invitation 18 pairs took part in the Men's Invitation on Sunday all enjoying the course, a 2 course lunchtime meal and even afternoon tea after play.
Our winners were past Captain
Steve Moore and his guest
Tony Haley from North Hants GC, pictured here with Club Captain
Robin Webb.

Special thanks go to
Adrian Nicol for co-ordinating and in fact running the whole day.
