Greetings from Gary Stubbington | Hockley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional | Hello golfers, Well the school holidays are upon us and true to form the weather changes, Friday and Sunday last week were a total wash out, Jack and I can vouch for that, playing in the Blacknest Pro Am in the pouring rain was not a pleasant experience. Hopefully things will improve for the Junior Open on Friday.
We would like to wish our assistant Chris a very Happy 30th Birthday on Friday 31st July. Have a great day Chris.
Whilst on the subject of birthdays, a few members have notable birthdays: Keith Eames was 65 on Monday and Vice-Captain Adrian Nicol is 60 on 2nd August, sharing my birthday, but I'm of course a long way off 60!! Howard Gleadow celebrates his birthday the following day on the 3rd August, but not notable until next year. 21 I believe again?
FREE Junior Coaching
Juniors, come and refresh your game. I will be holding a coaching session on Thursday 13th and Thursday 27th August from 10am - 11am. These are for junior members and will be FREE of charge.
Three (3) juniors are needed for the Winchester Triangular on Saturday 22nd August, please contact the pro team if you are unable to get to the club to sign up.
Ladies Invitation
32 Ladies took part in the ladies Invitation last Thursday and they certainly chose the right day. One day later and it would have been a 'wash out'. The winning pair were Chris Quinn and her guest Jo Shorrocks. Ladies, the Toogood Cup and Elkington Knife are now open for entry on the psi in the locker room.
Seniors' News
Rowlands Castle - away. Oh dear - we lost 5:1 (only managed 2 halves). There were a couple of 2&1 defeats where, if the greens were rolling anything like as fast as Hockley, the results could have been very different (Captain Graham had 4 putts that sat up on the edge, peered over and thought better of it!). That said, not long before we get the chance to exact revenge. The 'return' home match is Tuesday 18th August.
John Charles Salver vs. Hockley Ladies - Thursday 13th August 2015 - 12 noon tee.
HELP!! - Seniors Vice Captain Geoff has kindly offered to captain this event. Although he is very popular with the Ladies, Geoff is the only name on the Clubhouse list and he really would like your support; 7 more names required PLEASE! and good value at only £6.
Hockley Seniors Open - Just a reminder to bring along a pal and enter this major event; details on the website. Please let Geoff Charnley have any suitable raffle prizes you may wish to donate. Please leave them in the office at Hockley.

Stop Hanging Back
Here's how to learn to shift into the ball.
If you have too much weight on your back foot at impact -- two signs that you do are slicing and hitting behind the ball -- then practice swinging on a downslope. Gravity will pull you down the hill as you swing through, so you'll naturally shift to your front foot. Swinging downhill should also improve your swing path.
Players who hang back tend to cut across the ball because their arms pull inward or flip the club to the left. With your weight moving toward the target, your arms are free to extend down the line (right). So find a downslope -- the front of the practice tee or when you walk off a tee box -- and groove that forward shift. You'll start hitting all your shots more solidly.

| The reason we ask is because this ball has been getting a lot of good reviews. It uses a low compression core to help amateurs compress the ball more easily, so it's long. You'll get good reaction around the greens, too, because of the softest and most durable Urethane cover Callaway has ever made. |
