Pictured above are my team of Danny Francis, Paul Mantell and Derek Noyce enjoying the delights of the half-way-hut at Blackmoor last Friday.
We didn't take any prizes, but Jack was lucky enough to take third place in the professional event and had an enjoyable day with his Hockley team of Alan Smith, Martin Cresswell and Robert Parkinson.
Below is our intrepid Seniors' Captain waiting for 'take off' during his first experience of gliding (thankfully with an instructor!) on Friday evening, kindly arranged by Steve Pullen (who is qualified to fly solo).
Graham also had to wear a parachute and was hoping not to have two new experiences on the same night!! Thankfully, the parachute was not needed and the flight was described as "exhilarating". A hugely enjoyable and well organised evening.
Take a look at these video's done by our Greenkeeper Leigh Powell last week, it shows just a little of what they do to each morning to prepare the course for play. Click on the first video to watch the preparations for the Hampshire Green Jackets Final and the second for the Hockley Golf Club Junior Open.
Build Confidence For Golf
Visualize and Feel - The more vividly you can see a shot and the less you see what you fear, the more your body will respond to the positive visual stimulus. Every shot should have a purpose. Synchronizing the body and mind with a clearly defined objective will increase confidence. Hogan used to say he only hit 3-4 shots each round exactly as he intended, but it was having commitment to the shot he visualized that made the others not too far off line.
Develop a Strong Shot Routine - When you have a good pre-shot routine, even when you are in a high pressure situation you can feel confident you have approached the shot correctly. Your fundamentals are right and you have mentally and physically rehearsed the shot. This is the time to compose yourself and feel prepared and confident ahead of pulling the trigger. An additional part of the routine should be the next tip of how you react to the shot.
One of the keys to becoming a better player is quickly letting go of the past and staying in the present. Click here to get in contact and book yourself a lesson.
Juniors, come and refresh your game, I will be holding a coaching session on Thursday, 13 and 27 August from 10am - 11am. These are for junior members and will be free of charge. Click here to book your place.

SENIOR CUP
The winner of the Senior Cup last week was Godfrey Shearing with 37points closely forward by Christopher Duxbury with 36 points.
JUNIOR OPEN
Our Junior Open held last Friday saw the best juniors in the county compete on our course. The winner was Tom Hutchings from Oak Park on a score of 1 under par, 141. However, perhaps the performance of the day was Bethany Goater's score of 142, finishing runner up for the second year running, which included 9 bogeys, but 11 birdies, some of which Derek Noyce and I watched. These events don't run themselves so I would like to thank Tracy and Jack for organising the day with special thanks to Howard Gleadow for all his help and for co ordinating the helpers, Doug Peacock, Mike Eames, Anne Gleadow, Eddie Francis and Dave Thompson. Thanks also to Paul Brown our General Manger for doing the scoring with Howard and for staying late to do the prize giving with me.
RAF CUP
On a glorious Saturday the winner of the RAF Cup was Nigel Bray with 41 points and runner up was Scott Ingram with 40 points, beating Paul Arber on a countback.
MIXED OPEN
On another perfect day, 34 pairs took part in the Mixed Open which was won by Hockley member Colin Bradbury and his wife Sally from Cams Hall (pictured) with 40 points.
Runners Up were Joe and Eileen Ware from Meon Valley with 38 points.
Everyone enjoyed the course and the food and again my thanks to Doug Peacock and Paul Brown for welcoming, starting and scoring on the day.
Saturday, 8 August - The Centenary Bowl AM/AM will be played on and details are now posted on the notice board. Spaces are still available in the afternoon. As an added bonus there will be six dozen Srixon soft feel golf balls up for grabs! Paul (GM), Chris, Jack and I will be playing in the event and will mark a score, should any team beat that score they will take the balls, if more than one team beat us then the balls will be shared. Good Luck. There will also be an optional sweep of £5 per team, of which half will go to the Captains charity and the remaining half to the winning team. So lots to play for!
