The gamble of October renovations has appeared to have paid off again. We were blessed with a dry week which allowed us to get a lot of work done. The weather since has been mild enough to stimulate some growth so recovery of the surfaces will progress slowly but steadily. The next week or so we will utilise the drier afternoons to continue improving them.
Thanks to all of you golfers who put up with a few temporary putting surfaces last week and I'll thank you in advance for waiting if we get in your way this next week whilst cutting greens in the dry afternoons.
Assuming this dry weather stays with us, by the time you read this newsletter we should have commenced the cutting and bailing of the long grasses. Again bear with us this is a time consuming process.
As always keep an eye on the blog for more detailed updates.

There has been another case recently where a golfer has won damages after being hit by a golf ball.

'A golfer hit on the head by an errant golf ball has won £10,000 in damages after a judge ruled that the incident was "reasonably foreseeable". Lord Brailsford ruled in favour of John Ure, 46, after a hearing at the Court of Session. Stewart Muir, a member of Bellshill Golf Club since 2005, was found to be liable for the injury caused when his ball went "out of control".
He was playing on the ninth fairway and struck Ure on the tenth. Another player in Mr Muir's group had already played an errant shot towards Ure's group, prompting calls of "fore", leading the judge to conclude Muir should have realised Ure was playing in range of an errant drive.
Mr Muir told the court: "I wouldn't have thought of any problem arising. I wouldn't have surmised anything that far right that would create a problem. "It never came into my mind as any sort of risk. If it came into my mind as a risk I would not have played the shot." Mr Ure suffered a head injury after being struck by the ball, which knocked him to the ground and led to him reporting nausea and physical sickness for the rest of the day, forcing him to go to hospital. His counsel, Geoff Clarke QC, said damages in the action had been agreed at £10,000 if liability was established'.
Don't leave yourself at risk, and get insured today!
On a slightly more light-hearted note, here is a picture taken by Steve Hill-Cousins showing you are never too young to start playing golf!
The Roger Gaines trophy hasn't been played for the past 2 years and we would love to reinstate it this year. Roger was a very proactive junior organiser when Ben and Jack were juniors, the trophy was generated and is played in his memory.
Only 3 juniors have signed up for this competition which is very disappointing, if we do not get more of you signing up by Friday then we will have to cancel the event and perhaps try again in the February or Easter holiday break.
One more lady is needed to play in the Men v Ladies event this coming Sunday, with the first tee time at 12 noon. The format is a 4BBB stableford and 16 Men and Ladies are required, please sign up in the foyer.

During the past week Gordon Dewis (team skipper), Trevor Scott, Dave Davies (2) and Seniors Captain Geoff fought hard against some 20 other teams in Hayling's charity Texas Scramble.
Finishing with 66.8 in excellent course conditions, wasn't good enough to beat the winners (Hayling) with 59.6.
